A day of stillness, spaciousness and connection

Join Lisa Genki Gibson Sensei and fellow practitioners to experience the potency of Zen, and the simple practice of Zazen, or seated meditation.

There is no other time than right here and now to wholeheartedly meet our lives - in all their suffering, beauty, sorrow and tenderness.

For seasoned practitioners and beginners alike, this workshop will restore our connection to ourselves, each other and the earth by simply sitting, breathing, moving and being together.

"Zazen is the dharma gate of great ease and joy."

— DOGEN ZENJI

Zen is both a practice that we do and an expression of who we are. At its heart, Zen is the direct experience of reality as it is in each moment. It points us over and over to this moment, inviting us to become intimate with our lives and the world around us. When we empty ourselves of our preferences and our ideas of how things should be, innate wisdom, compassion, joy and creativity simply emerge as our natural response.

The primary practice in the Zen tradition is Zazen or seated meditation. We simply sit down with our spines upright and pay attention to the rhythm of the breath, becoming present, alert and relaxed.

This Day of Zen is an opportunity for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike to engage the simple practice of just sitting as a powerful tool, boundless in its ability to reveal the true nature of being.

Led by Lisa Genki Gibson Sensei, we will:

  • Practice seated and walking meditation
  • Listen to a dharma talk

  • Move through simple embodiment practices
